Is Hypnosis for you?
About
the Hypnotherapist:
Terry Biener, CCH, has been helping adults and
children with hypnosis since 1992. Her numerous
certifications were earned though the American Board of
Hypnotherapy and the National Guild of Hypnotists.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education
from SUNY New Paltz.
As a former early childhood teacher, she has helped
children heal self-worth and confidence that's been
damaged through ADD or ADHD.
How many sessions needed
depends on both the individual and the issue. Since most
habits or conditions exist from years of negative
re-enforcement, one should expect at least a few sessions
for long-lasting effect. One-on-one hypnosis can be
tailored exactly to the person's issues, triggers and
personality. Motivation and the desire to make the change
are important ingredients. At the same time, trust and a
good rapport with the Hypnotherapist should definitely be
there. Ms. Biener believes that people should understand
hypnosis and be comfortable with it before trying it.
Hypnotherapy can be effective with just about
anything caused by, or blocked by, the subconscious mind.
She been able to help people improve in sports,
concentration, study habits, and get past addictions,
obsessions and all types of habits. She has helped people
through a grieving process, or post-traumatic stress
syndrome.
When induced by a qualified professional, hypnosis is a
SAFE technique that can benefit anyone.
Forget what you've seen in movies and at stage shows.
Even if you've never been formally hypnotized, you're
probably more familiar with hypnosis than you realize. The
fact is, a hypnotic trance is a natural state that most of
us visit on a daily basis.
For example, most of us have driven a distance while
thinking of other things, when suddenly we realize that we
don't remember having passed certain exits or streets.
That is called 'waking hypnosis.' Since the conscious part
of the mind was not focused on driving, the subconscious
mind (the part programmed through repetition) took over
and got there safely. Or, a very light hypnotic trance
could occur when a person is so engrossed in a novel or
movie that he or she is there and real surroundings
don't seem to exist. A Hypnotherapist induces a hypnotic
trance to be able to readjust the
subconscious. Contrary to myths, there is never a loss of
control.
Hypnosis can used as a tool to make changes, or to
change responses. A person's priorities can be adjusted in
a way that is more comfortable for him or her. For
instance, a craving for sweets or cigarettes can be
replaced with a strong desire for a trimmer figure, or for
health and vitality. Responses, which are formed by the
subconscious, will be re-framed or reprogrammed.
Changes in a person's behavior can easily be made when
in a trance, because the subconscious mind is more
suggestable. Hypnosis can help redirect the SUBCONSCIOUS
to cooperate with the CONSCIOUS mind's desires (such as
wanting to lose weight, stop smoking, or be free of a
phobia).
Hypnosis is NOT sleep, magic or a mystical form of mind
control.
The subject's priorities will be changed in ways that
are comfortable for him or her. For example, the desire
for cigarettes might be replaced by a yearning for good
health, vitality, and/or the urge to drink plenty of
refreshing cool water.
