Chicken
Why Eat Organic Chicken? You’ll not only
taste the difference, your body and family will be safer.
Arsenic is commonly used in conventional chicken feed to
ward off parasites. Arsenic? Yes, arsenic!
Arsenic is a poison and increases our risk of cancer.
But there are other reasons to choose organic.

What is Organic Chicken?
- Chicken
has always been fed only Organic Grains. (Organic Grains -
nonGMO; no chemicals or pesticides were
used on the farm for at least 3 years.)
Feed is checked and verified for organic
standards.
- Chicken
was never given any antibiotics, hormones, or drugs.
- Chicken
was raised humanely and in a stress-free environment.
- Bird
was free-range and had access daily to fresh air and
sunshine outdoors. Bird had room to move. Outdoors area was clean and safe.
Organic Chicken tastes better because they are
allowed room to roam (use their muscles), they eat better
(you are what you eat), they generally have double the
life (phew!), and they have a better life (better food,
outdoors, room to move).
Isn't "Natural" good enough?
Natural is simply a label for ANY food
product which means that the product does not contain
artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and that it
is minimally processed. Virtually ALL chickens are
"natural!"
Conventional
Chicken
is raised in confined tight quarters. This is an
understatement - some of them are in extremely cramped,
damp ammonia-accumulated and polluted environments with no
natural ventilation. They are therefore predisposed
to stress and sickness which can spread quickly. Therefore, they are treated with antibiotics regularly.
They may be fed drugs to enhance their growth as well as
additives to enhance their color. They are fed
grains and soybeans that contain pesticides and are
probably
GMO.
They may be fed animal by-products, certainly not natural
feed for chickens. Conventional Chickens are ready
to be sent to the market after only 40+ days! This
is shocking to the conscience! (It also means their
size is due to fat and they are not going to be tasty.)
Then they are processed with phosphates and possibly other
chemicals and left to soak in a bath. This allows
the potential for salmonella to grow and water logs the
birds making them heavier when we go to buy them. Obviously, this in turn waters down the flavor too.
And all this ends up on our plate.
Free Range Chickens are given room to move. The
term free range only means that the birds are allowed
access to the outdoors. It doesn't mean that the
area outdoors (or indoors) is particularly clean either.
They can pick up disease there. It doesn't
necessarily mean that they are not treated with
antibiotics or drugs. And it doesn't speak to the
food given to the chicken. A bird could be labeled
free range and been fed anything (GMO grains,
pesticide-treated grains, and even animal by products,)
may have been given antibiotics or hormones, and may have
access to unsanitary or unsafe living conditions.
Kosher Chicken can then be prepared as
you normally would cook chicken if you don't keep kosher.
You can use a Kosher chicken to prepare Kosher and
non-kosher meals. Kosher
Organic Chicken
is just the best choice with the highest most humane
standards at every stage.
Kosher
has to do with what foods may be eaten, what foods can be
eaten with other food, how these foods are prepared, how
the food is processed (not to include non-kosher
ingredients) and manufactured (in a facility that complies
with kosher dietary standards and doesn't mix
meat
and milk, for example) and how the animal is slaughtered -
in the most humane way possible so as to cause the animal
the least amount of stress. (That stress, after all,
ends up on our plates.) Making a chicken kosher for
us to purchase takes about three times as long as
non-kosher. (That's why kosher chickens are more
expensive.) During processing, chickens are soaked
in a brine (salt water solution) to remove the blood and

Kosher
Chickens are fed only grain (never animals or animal
by-products), are free range in a clean environment and
are never given antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids.
However, their feed is conventional and is therefore Genetically
Modified and treated with
chemicals and pesticides. Their environment can also
be cleaned with chemicals.
Unlike
conventional poultry farms, organic chickens live in a
clean environment with natural disinfectants instead of
harmful chemicals like formaldehyde. Unlike
conventional poultry farms, organic birds are raised in
natural sunlight with access to the outdoors and get (one
and a half times) more room to roam. Unlike
conventional birds, organic chickens are fed only organic
grain free of antibiotics and chemicals. With more
room, fresh air, and no chemicals, organic kosher birds
are healthier, taste better and are better for us to
consume.

Cooking Tips:
Poultry
should be cooked until done and never eaten rare. It
should reach a temp of 170 degrees but remember that it
will continue to cook from the heat once you take the bird
out and "rest it" for 20 minutes to let the
juices resettle. Therefore I take my birds out at
165.
